Fall Basketball Plans and Info
Updated: Aug 7, 2019
Dear Parents & Players –
As we head back to school, I wanted to take a moment to thank you all for your role in making our team better over the last two months…
Thanks to players for volunteering at tournaments, and for their commitment to skill and strength improvements. Thanks also to parents for your communication and for getting the guys to the gym to be part of our activities!
Our first MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER MEETING IS AUGUST 20TH AT 8:00 am in the AUX GYM at CASS – Plan to be there to be informed about preseason activities and tryouts!
There are 3 other important things I’d like to share with you…
1. 1. 2019 PHYSICALS: Players MUST have a current physical to participate in any basketball activities – athletes can pick up a Physical Packet from DR. MOORE or one of our PE teachers. Please be sure to get yours done PRIOR to our team tryouts so you are covered for the 2019-2020 School Year.
2. 2. FUNDRAISING UPDATE:
Thanks to those who have volunteered to help with our tournament fundraisers.
Prior to our July tournaments, we already sent in $5k in deposits to take our varsity team to Orlando after Christmas.
Our July tournaments raised over $7k more, and along with a raffle next fall, that will be used to pay the expenses for the entire $16,000 trip. Thank you in advance for your efforts in making sure we are successful in financing this experience for our guys! (FYI – we are getting new varsity uniforms, and I am working on adding a new JV set as well. More to come…)
3. 3. FALL GAMES & SKILL SESSIONS:
THIS is what I am most excited to report!
-We have agreed to participate in a Sunday game league at East Paulding High that will include 8 games over 8 weeks (to be played at 2,3, or 4 pm). More to come once schedule is released. Josh Luster will be coaching and will invite athletes who participated during summer… it is a varsity level league.
-We will begin am 4-on-1 skill work the week of September 3rd. I will put together a schedule and post it on my office door and on our website. We will work on specific skills and fundamentals to prepare for the season.
-On Tue and Thur evenings, starting 8/27, Kshaun Daley will return (6-8 pm) to lead skills and toughness training for our guys. I strongly encourage commitment to these sessions for all players in the program.
-To continue to improve as shooters (you do well what you do often!), we will set up a competition between players to see which of 3 groups (senior players will draft their “teams”) can MAKE the most 3-point shots prior to October 18 (Team Tryouts are 10/21). A chart will be outside my office, players will report and share video with me, and the winning team of shooters will get dinner together.
-We MAY also be able to secure the services of a strength / nutrition / recovery expert on Mon and Wed afternoons, but I haven’t confirmed that yet. More to come when more information is available ; )
**Of course, as I will always remind our players THEIR FIRST PRIORITY IS CLASSES AND KEEPING A”S AND B’S to open doors beyond Cass High School.
My room or Coach Cooper’s room will be open for study hall and homework every day that we have evening activities to ensure that our guys are responsible and taking care of their most important job as students. We will continue to monitor player progress with grade reports every few weeks as long as I am at Cass ; )
ALSO: We will have our first PARENT AND BOOSTER CLUB MEETING the week following tryouts (likely on the evening of Monday, October 28). We will have much more to share then about the season and events and opportunities to serve!
Thanks so much for your help in making Cass Basketball a special experience for our guys – we will always strive to develop young men into better people, who become better players, who contribute to something more significant than themselves!
If you ever have a question, or if there is something that you’d like to share that would help our program, you can always reach me at 770-861-6840.
Grateful and Excited to be part of the Cass Family!
